The Shoebox Can You Relate?

So many of you have sent such sweet messages asking about Hubby & his recovery from his heart surgery. He is doing well. Everyday he is a little better. Has it been easy? NO!!!!!!!!! But, we have come so far & I see light at the end of the tunnel. And I don't THINK it's a train! Yesterday (Saturday) I did go to Cottage Panche & took a Class from my friend Lisa. AMAZING!!!!!!!!! I will share that with you soon. But, today I wanted to share a cute little email that I had gotten back in April from another friend. These guys... WE LOVE THEM yet.......... See if you can relate to this little story. It made me SMILE & brought perspective in the past couple of weeks when I've had to play Nurse Cratchit to a Hubby who's never been sick in his life & NOT HAPPY about being so now.
A man & woman had been married for more than 60 years. They had shared everything. They had talked about everything. They had kept no secrets from each other except that the little old woman had a shoe box in the top of her closet that she had cautioned her husband to NEVER OPEN or ask her about.
For all of these years, he had never thought about the box but, one day the little old woman got very sick & the doctor said she would not recover. In trying to sort out their affairs, the little old man took down the shoe box & took it to his wife's bedside. She agreed that it was time that he should know what was in the box. When he opened it, he found two crocheted dolls & a stack of money totaling $95,000.00 He asked her about the contents.
When we were to be married, she said, my grandmother told me "THE SECRETE TO HAPPY MARRIAGE WAS TO NEVER ARGUE" She told me that "if I ever got angry with you, I should just keep quiet & crochet a doll"
The little old man was so moved: he had to fight back the tears. ONLY TWO PRECIOUS DOLLS were in the box. She had only been angry with him two times in all those years of living & loving. He almost burst with happiness.
"Honey" he said "that explains the dolls, but, what about all of this money" "Where did it come from?"
"OH" she said "THAT'S THE MONEY I MADE FROM SELLING THE DOLLS!"
A prayer...
Dear Lord, I pray for Wisdom to understand my man; Love to forgive him; & Patience for his moods; Because Lord, if I pray for Strength, I'll beat him to death, because I don't have time to crochet.
Hee Hee this one made me laugh Evelyn & THANK YOU for sending it to me back before I even knew I would need it to cheer me up. And I hope it made all of you have a little chuckle too. Thanks for all the words of support & friendship. Things are moving along. HUGS!

  21. Hi Charlene, that story is one of my favorites. Glad to hear your hubby is recovering well. It takes time and they go through so many emotions of their own. I know I've had to learn so much, especially in the compassion department.
