My First Pink Saturday/A Visit to The Madona Inn

I want to thank Beverly for inviting me to join her in my first Pink Saturday! Click on the button on my sidebar to visit her & see the others that are participating. As many of you know, I went out to California in late March & while there I heard about the Madonna Inn from our Inn Keepers Jack & Judy as well as from a couple of the girls in my jewelry design class. Tina Marie was telling me that she & the girls had to go check it out because it was "Famous" I can tell you it was interesting.... Hmmm Hmmm Back in the 1930's Alex Madonna (nothing to do with the Pop Star) built this as a Motor Inn. He built it on his property & used a lot of ROCKS & I don't mean regular rocks I mean BOULDERS! The rooms are made of rocks, beds made of rocks, bathrooms guest bathrooms of rocks, everything has rocks! He developed a color he called Madonna Pink. The first two photos show the outside of the building . Yep it's Pink!
You can see some of the rocks coming into play here in the gardens.

And, pink lights in the fountains.

And you guessed it, Pink in the bar!

And last but, not least for today... The Dinning Room. IN PINK! Just think how BAD it would be if they didn't have some green there for Easter Decor. I never said he had good taste. But he did spend a fortune on this place. He had carvers from Europe here working on the woodwork for YEARS. The most unusual thing is that EVERYONE is supposed to see the men's restroom. Yes, you heard me...even the women go in to check it out. Everything sinks & all (yes the urinal) are made of ROCKS. Huge Rocks! That part was pretty disgusting. I think I could have past on that. And the signature desert... Pink Champagne Cake. If you are wondering about this local tourist place it is in San Louis Obesipo, California. On Madonna Rd & Hwy 101. Diana was surprised I wanted to go there (she didn't recommend it) but, I had heard so much about it. About all I can say for it...IT WAS PINK!

Well, it does indeed look interesting and it is really pink. It's amazing what someone creates and the amount of time and money they put into it. I guess to each his own. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Marty

The whole place isn't pink... I stayed there for my first Honeymoon. It was a gift from my parents... they stayed there when they were married... Our room was RED! Oh my gosh... and every room has a different theme. Our shower was made of rock... It was awesome actually... I loved all the rocks!

I LOVE the Madonna Inn, I've always dreamed of spending a night in one of their themed rooms. The rock waterfall in the first floor mens restroom is definitely a sight to see!!! When we lived in California, we always stopped there for dinner when we were in the area. They used to have an amazing gift shop too

Happy Pink Saturday!

Well, I'm not a big fan of pink. But I am a rock lover. I don't think I'd go quite that far with rocks. I prefer mine outdoors!

I have seen this place on the Travel Channel. It is very unique to say the least. They showed many of the suites also. I think the basics of the place are neat, but it seems to me the place could use a renovation/redecorating overhaul! At least now you can check it off your list, LOL! Have a great weekend and welcome to Pink Saturday!

I must say this place is very quirky, but interesting. What makes one decide to make everything from boulders? Apparently it was a successful design, after all, you and I are still gawking!

Happy Pink Saturday,

Ahhh, The Madonna Inn. When I was a kid I used to insist we stop there for breakfast whenever we would drive down the coast. I really do think everyone should see it at least once! A wonderful first pink post!

Happy Pink Saturday!

As my mother would say, you made two trips in one, your first and last.

I completely understand the whole boil and toil thing with making oatmeal. I was so thrilled when I read a recipe with instructions for using a crockpot...it really makes it so much easier and perfect.
Thank you for your visit to our blog.

I have to say that one of the reasons that I enjoy pink saturday so much is because pink can be so lovely, or so...well, like the Madonna house. We had a house in our neighborhood that was denied a building variance. In angry retribution, they painted their entire house pepto bismol pink. It certainly got every ones attention. A belated welcome to pink Saturday.
