Outdoor Wednesday Everman,TX Parrots

Welcome to Outdoor Wednesday hosted by Susan. Click on the button on my sidebar to see Susan & all the others playing. On Monday I introduced you to my new friend Laverne that owns the awesome trailer Boss Lady that I introduced you to on MET MONDAY (for those of you that missed it GO BACK IT IS WAY WONDERFUL!) Oh My Gosh she is so unbelievably COOL!!!!! I just can't wait to tell you about Laverne & all that we saw & all that I learned! She is fascinating & sooooooooooooooooooooo much FUN!!!!! You will hear a LOT more about her! In the meantime... POLLY WANT A CRACKER????? I know you are thinking "WHAT IS THIS SILLY GIRL THINKING & WHAT IS THAT! Parrots! Green Parrots! And their NEST!

Yes, in Everman, Texas (located just south of Ft Worth) there was once a pair (mating pair) of Parrots that either got away or were turned loose. These two have now multiplied to well over 100. They all live within about a 3 city block area. The nests are built on the high line wires & you can hear the squawking (LOUD!!!!!) all around. They are on the wires & in the trees.

Here is a nest that has a trumpet vine that has grown up and around the entire nest.

Here you see it from a distance.

If you click on the photos to enlarge it you will see two birds peeking out at you! Have you ever seen anything like this before????? I sure hadn't! Hope you enjoyed.

How fascinating!!! I would love to see them. Don't they have problems with the electric or phone company setting up house on that pole? Aren't they absolutely lovely and they seem to have adapted to their surroundings. I will bet the people that own the property hate the noise but the conversation starter at a party woul be priceless!! Thank you for sharing this. Sharon

That post is incredible. The parrots look so pretty. Can't wait to go back and try to get close to them. They are so pretty.
I go to the RA doctor tomorrow. Talk to you soon.

How cute the last photo is showing them in their little homes. On Hilton Head there is a large nest and the phone company went up an put a cone on the top of the pole I guess so that it tells the workers not to touch the area. Well I hope that what is what it means. The nest keeps getting larger but does not have the pretty greenery like your photo which is amazing. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing this great post! What a fantastic nest they have up there!!

I was wondering the same thing as Sharon about the electric lines!

Maybe you could teach them all how to sing- or sound tough and mean and say things that would scare the bad guys off!

Once again, Charlene...thank you. To answer the questions.....those of us that live here, love our little parrots and I have never heard anyone complain about the noise. They do wreck havoc with the power lines sometimes but they are worth it. Aren't they adorable?

O.K. Hi girlfriend!!! These parrots are all over FL. The bild their nest on these poles because in nature the are tree top dwellers. It is warm around those transformers. They live in colonies. That's why you see so many. In Fl. it's aginst the law to move them. They are very loud. But they are very pretty and fun to watch!!! Just thought you'd like to know. OH ~~They are "Quaker Parrots."~~~~Blessings, Deborah
