Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr Baby It’s Cold Out There!

Falls 4

My last post showed you our trip to Farmers Market with beautiful blue skies & temps in the 70’s. Wellllllllllllllll that’s not the case this week. And all those beautiful flowers & flats of pansies I planted…. are all covered with beach towels & blankets thanks to an Arctic Blast that has descended on us for this whole week. In the theme of this I thought I would share some photos I found & thought very interesting. In 1911 (Yes!  100 years ago can you believe that?) it was so cold that Niagara Falls froze completely. Can you imagine? And of course they did not have the wonderful source of central heat like we do today.Frozen Falls 1911 1

Can you IMAGINE?????

Falls 2

I hope you have enjoyed these vintage images & little bit of history. And as for Elle & I… we’re staying in & using this time to organize the studio (yes, after the holidays it is a mess again for it was a “Dumping Ground” for “STUFF”) fix a big pot of soup & to rid our files of 2010 paperwork. Do you suppose I can get my sales tax return done & NOT pay the $50 late fee like I did the last 3 years????? Since it’s so cold & not conducive to running around….. MAYBE!

And Elle wants you to know that being such a short/tiny girl makes it really hard to run out to piddle when your belly drags in the frozen grass!!!!!! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Stay warm.

HUGS! Charlene

New Banner & Treasures

I want to thank my friend Tiffany http://wwwbeyondthevintagepath.blogspot.com/ for creating my new banner. I love sweet Tiffany & was cruising her Blog & noticed this banner (go over & see for yourself all the goodies she has created). LOVE at first site. As we all know Marie is sooooooooo very popular now & I loved the chandelier & all the sparkle that Tiffany added to this banner. Also our friends/neighbors Pierre & Daniele have just come back for their 3 month stay in Texas. They live between Texas & Mont Pieler France(in the south of France near the Mediterranean Sea). Three months in one place & then three months in the other. So, I guess I was feeling a little French right now. Thank You Tiffany I Love My New Banner!
Here is "Honey" toasting Daniele & Pierre's return at our celebration steak dinner. They say that Texas has the best beef in the whole world. We just love to hear that. I went to visit a new (for me) Antique Store named Golightly's & fell in love with this cute little black shelf. It had to be mine. I haven't found it's new spot yet but, I have it & know just the right place will come to me.
Also, found, loved, & purchased at the same shop is the black side table, old Underwood typewriter, & photo holder. This is how they were displayed in the bathroom (yes, you heard me right the bathroom) of Golightly's.
And here is a quick shot of them in my living room backed up to my rocker (with another vice of mine in view... stacks of magazines). Do you see the photo holder? Yet another new obsession... adopting children. The two on the left were found in Arroyo Grande, California while out at Diana's class, the one on the bottom found in Cambria & the one you can't see because I chopped it off in this photo... I found last week while shopping at Lone Star Antiques in Ft Worth. Please feel free to use this sweet baby if you would like. It is my Wednesday gift to you. As Dawn http://the-feathered-nest.blogspot.com/ says it's so nice to share, so Dawn I'm paying one forward for you dear. Hugs to each of you my friends.

Goodies From Yesterday!

I HIT THE JACK POT AT THE ANTIQUE MALL!

All these goodies for $35.00! WOW!

Look at the sweet old photos of the children. They have a few damage spots that I am going to work on with Photoshop Elements. And the print of the little girl with the bird is in a damaged mat but, a little bit of dental floss & I can fix that.

These two photos are of an OLD post card. The front is in black & white. The first photo shows them with two fans I found on clearance at Garden Acres. I think they will look great together on some project. ???? Who knows where that will go but, I loved the vintage print.

This is a little pansy spoon that I found & hope it will clean up well. There was a set of 5 of these & if this one cleans up well the whole set will be mine. For a big $2.20 I could hardly go wrong. Below is a close up of the detail of the spoon while placed on that nasty mat from the print of the little girl & bird.

Two Heisey juice tumblers. These little beauties are small but so cute. A steal for $3.50 each. Heisey glass ware has such a great color & weight to the glass.
And this darling little doll head was a GREAT FIND. I will use it to make another necklace like I am going to make in Diana's http://dianafrey.blogspot.com/ class. And speaking of that subject... I went shopping this week for all of my supplies for that class. OH MY! Overload!!! I have so much to learn on that subject...That is another whole post. Chasing hammers, blocks, anvils, size/types of beads & wire. I am excited & inspired but OVER WHELMED!
On another note, I am very excited because I won the drawing from Sharon! See the post below. THANK YOU SO MUCH SHARON! This is the first time I have ever won a Blog drawing. I can't wait to receive my Sommerset Magazine. It inspires me so! As Dawn says "you have to get up from the computer to create". Have a great weekend my friends.
